Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy |

Robert M. Young Online Writings'The Role of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in the Human Sciences' 66k This is the text of a talk which I gave to the Zangwill Club at the Department of Experimental Psychology in Cambridge in February 1989. I did my doctorate on the History of cerebral localization under the supervision of Professor Oliver Zangwill, who was sceptical about psychoanalysis and encouraged me to complete my medical training instead of pursuing further studies in the history and philosophy of science. I used the occasion to reflect on the reasons for teaching psychoanalysis in a university curriculum in psychology. Along with 'Life Among the Mediations', this talk laid the foundations of much which I later published. |
