Films of John Steinbeck's books are among my favourites, so I was delighted to be asked to review a re-make of this one for a new film magazine. I was chastised for panning it in contrast with the original version. No one should write at length about a bad film, I was told. I published the review in The Psychoanalysis Newsletter no. 11: 20-25, 1993.
