'Darwin and the Genre of Biography' 66k
I was invited to contribute a chapter to a collection challenging the arts/ science
divided and was at the time beginning to reflect on the importance of biography as a
genre. So I reflected on how Darwin has been served and set this within the context of
current debates in Darwin scholarship. This is a companion to my essay on 'Biography as a
Basic Discipline in the Human Sciences' and my essay review of Desmond and Moore's Darwin My essay was published in G. Levine, ed., One Culture: Essays in Science and Literature.
Madison: University of Wisconsin Press, 1987, pp. 203-24.
